Journey to Archetype

The purpose of this journey is to open up a dialogue between yourself and a part of you that could be described as a subsection of yourself in order to gain helpful information, advice and insights into how you tick.  You can choose a part that you know well, or one that you don't know so well. This is a good journey to do many times so that you can learn more and more about yourself and use the information to develop in positive and healthy ways.

Far SightThe subsections are often referred to as archetypes because they have a universal energy or pattern to them; they are particular ways of being that permeate our collective unconscious.

Examples include the Teacher, Healer, Knight in Shining Armour, Victim, Magician, Child, Seeker, Destroyer, Mother, Father, Fool, Hero, Judge, Priest, Orphan, Warrior, Creator, Student, Lover, Carer, Ruler, Prostitute, Mystic, Sage... There are many more to choose from - Caroline Myss has 74 in her Archetype Cards (well worth investigating).

It could be said that we all have a little bit of each archetype within us, although perhaps only a certain number predominate, some that we are consciously aware of, others that we are completely unaware of but nevertheless still drive us.

Choose one to work with. Will you choose one that you know well or one that repulses you and you feel can't possibly be part of you? Either way you may be surprised by what you find in your journey.

The Intention:

My intention is to: journey to the archetype of [insert your chosen archetype] that resides within me to learn about her/him.

The Journey:

As always, start at your axis mundi. Call your main Power Animal(s) to you at your axis mundi and repeat your intention 3 times, to your Power Animal(s), before sending it out into the Universe from your heart. Then allow your Power Animal(s) to take you to the right place, which may be in the Upper or Lower World. When you arrive before the figure that represents your chosen archetype, take note of how she or he appears. They may not look as you expect, for example, they may not have a human form.

Ask any questions you feel will help you understand them and how they operate in your life. Here are some suggestions:

How do you manifest in my life?

How do you sabotage my life?

How can I honour your presence in my life?

When you hear the call-back, if using a shamanic drumming track, or when you feel you have finished your journey, thank all the beings you have met and return to your axis mundi the way you came. At your axis mundi, thank your main Power Animal(s) for their help and protection and say good-bye for now.

Notes on the Journey:

This journey can be extremely illuminating, and you may want to work your way through many archetypes to find out more about yourself and what impulses may be "in charge" in various circumstances.
