Shamanic Practitioner Training -  2017

Please note: due to Trish undertaking psychotherapy training, the number of sessions comprising the practitioner course is subject to change as we negotiate the demands of both her training and teaching.

In this course, you will gather the shamanic healing tools that will allow you to grow, both as an individual and as part of a group who will continue to support each other's health and development. You will learn how to bring this work into every area of your life, transforming your relationships, work and leisure.

Taken as a whole, this is a comprehensive training programme, intended to be a life-changing course. Whilst it is hoped that you will commit to the whole course, it is not compulsory to do so. You may also take only the components that interest you or fill a gap in your knowledge. With the exception of Soul Retrieval, all of the other components stand alone as single weekend courses, and can be taken alone or in combination. Soul Retrieval is taught over two weekends, and both must be taken together.

By the end of the course, you will have a strong and regular spiritual practice that includes techniques for healing, meditation, personal development, problem-solving, divination, and many other practical applications which you can use on behalf of yourself, the members of the group, your wider community, the Earth and environment. With practice, you will be able to perform healing work on behalf of clients following this training, if you wish, although some people may choose to use the knowledge and experience gained here purely as a means for personal transformation.

Please note: these are all advanced courses for which previous experience is necessary; please see Prerequisites.

Course Background

SculptureKnowledge and transformation of the Self, Consciousness and Reality. For as long as man has walked the earth he has sought to understand what is and what could be. And for tens of thousands of years (at the very least), shamanism has been the route through which man has learned about the workings of the Universe and, in partnership with spirit, has been able to work in harmony with the world he inhabits. Shamans recognise that spirit is in all things and that all is connected in the web of life; as within, so without. Shamanism is the forerunner of modern spiritual and medical systems, and now more than ever is needed to restore balance to our personal and collective worlds by connecting us as individuals directly to divine guidance. The world as we know it is in great flux; some say that the systems that we have built up are breaking down and that the world our civilisation has created is not working. Cycles, death and rebirth are a constant feature of our world, and there is nothing to fear when the old gives way to the new, but as conscious individuals we can take responsibility for raising the vibration of the collective consciousness. We can walk the path of the shaman and see the “what is”, and dream the new dream, the “what could be” through personal transformation, and through service to our communities and the Earth as a whole. This course is designed to create a strong group of shamanic practitioners who will have the tools to continue to work on their own psycho-spiritual transformation, supporting each other in the process, and to use those tools for transformation in service to their communities and the Earth, to bring spirit into all areas of life, and to dream the new dream for the Earth and Humanity so that there is something new and wonderful to move into as we leave the old dream behind.

Course Content and Structure

All of the work is practical in nature, and you will be encouraged to dive deeply into the practices outside of the formal teaching sessions as well as in them. You will look at health and disease from the shamanic perspective; how we become ill and how we restore and maintain health. You will gain practical experience of a variety of shamanic healing and other techniques. A brief description of each session follows. Please click on the link within each session description to go to its page for further information.

The Oracle - 25th/26th February 2017

One weekend. Oracular work is an ancient practice of communion with spirit that allows a deity or other spiritual helper to speak through you, of which the Delphic Oracle is probably the most famous example. But don't let that put you off. This is an extremely potent way of working; much misunderstood, and still very accessible and useful in the modern world. It is a different way of working with spirit than in the shamanic journey (although some may recognise it once they experience it). Find out more.

The Shaman in the Land of the Dead - 18th/19th March 2017

One weekend. Shamans are concerned with healing the members of their community, and that includes those members of the community who have passed through the veil that we call death. You'll learn about death from the shamanic perspective and the technique of psychopomp – helping the souls of the dead to cross over. You'll learn about the landscape of death and about working with people who are close to death, and those who are dealing with grief after the death of a loved one. Find out more.

Extraction Medicine - 22nd/23rd April 2017

One weekend. We will look at health and disease from the shamanic perspective; how we become ill and how we restore and maintain health. You will learn the shamanic healing technique of extraction; a method for removal of energetic blockages which restrict the flow of energy around the non-physical body and can lead to physical, emotional and spiritual problems. You will also learn the technique of power retrieval. Find out more.

Soul Retrieval Part 1 - 20th/21st May 2017

First of two weekends. We will look at health and disease from the shamanic perspective; how we become ill and how we restore and maintain health. You will learn the shamanic healing technique of soul retrieval; an extremely potent method for healing the effects of trauma. Please note, BOTH weekends must be attended. Find out more.

Soul Retrieval Part 2 - 24th/25th June 2017

Second of two weekends. Part 2 covers the vital integration work that is required following soul retrieval. You will also learn the more subtle, but no less powerful method of healing with spiritual light. Please note, BOTH weekends must be attended. Find out more.

Healing with Breath/Voice - 29th/30th July 2017

One weekend. The breath, and with it the human voice, is arguably the most versatile and powerful shamanic tool, which can be put to use in myriad ways. One thing is for sure; it is certainly the most portable shamanic tool possessed by anyone who lives and breathes! You will learn to use your breath and your voice to heal yourself and others. This is not about singing though - so no need to fear, you are not expected to perform in a concert or even to be able to "hold a tune"! Find out more.

Throughout the Course

Building Supporting Relationships – you will deepen and strengthen the relationship and trust with your spirit allies, and at the same time, forge, and then strengthen bonds of trust with your human companions on the course who will be your support throughout the course and beyond. There will also be check-in contact with myself and the group between sessions for added support.

Safety, Ethics and Consent – these important issues will be explored in depth. You will learn about the need to completely move the ego aside and allow spirit to guide the healing, journey or ceremony, as well as the unshakeable requirement to have explicit consent to perform any shamanic work on behalf of another and how to deal with situations where consent is difficult to obtain. You will also learn how to use the healing tools safely, so that neither the practitioner, the recipient of the shamanic work, nor anyone else involved are harmed.

The Universe – at the core of all of the practices, there is the opportunity to learn how the Universe works; how it works in the world we see around us, and how it works within us. Shamanism is pragmatic in nature – everything we as practitioners do is done with the intention of bringing forth learning, healing, or change for the better in our world. You will start to understand how all things are connected in the great web of life, and how the Universe provides for us and communicates with us. You'll learn the ways in which we both help and hinder this process. You will learn that we are co-creators of our world, and that as shamanic practitioners, we can use our knowledge of the workings of the Universe to consciously bring about change for the good within ourselves, our communities and the Earth. You'll learn how to make sacred objects and imbue them with power.

The Still Centre – you will experience different meditative practices which, along with the shamanic journey itself, will form the supportive chalice that holds you in peace and in connection with spirit so that the trials and tribulations of life cease to knock you off-centre.

Dreaming – you will learn basic shamanic dreaming practices and you'll be encouraged to continue dreaming work in your life after the session. Those who wish to will receive ongoing guidance and the benefit of in excess of 40 years of my experience in dream work to enable them to go deeper and deeper into the practice.

Shadow and Light – working deeply with the personal aspects of the “what is” and the “what could be” you'll use various shamanic techniques to stalk the Self and its shadow so that you can separate your authentic Self from the conditioning and learned patterns of behaviour, and be all that you can be. This work is deeply transformative and nurturing at the level of the individual, the group and the Universe as a whole.

In Service – you will learn how to work on behalf of others and the Earth for the purposes of healing, rebalancing and dream-weaving in service to the community and to the Earth.

Course Aims

Standing Stone

This is intended to be a life-changing course, extending into your life and well beyond the end of the formal teaching. By the end of the course, you will have a strong and regular spiritual practice that includes techniques for healing, meditation, personal development, problem-solving, divination, and many other practical applications which you can use on behalf of yourself, the members of the group, your wider community, and in service to the Earth and humanity. Your training group will form its own shamanic healing community, able to fully embody shamanism in your life. Group members will provide ongoing support for each other, actively encouraging each other's psycho-spiritual development process, using the full and considerable range of shamanic tools to help each other when required. You will join the growing group of fine people who have completed the Shamanic Practitioner Training Course, and if you choose to continue with the ongoing programme for further development, your support group will widen to include this growing group.

With practice, you will be able to perform healing work on behalf of clients following this training, if you wish, although some people may choose to use the knowledge and experience gained here purely as a means for personal transformation.
